In this fast paced world of mobile devices and constant connectivity it can be easy to admit you haven't stepped a foot in a bank in years. But if there's one to break the trend it's the new Commonwealth Bank branch in Rundle Mall!

Having recently moved from its previous location, the new Rundle Mall Commonwealth Bank branch is a far cry from the awkward silence, long queues and paper bankbooks of the past. The branch has undergone a huge transformation and now boasts a banking experience of the future.

Since Mr (later Sir) Denison Miller opened its first branch on Collins Street, Melbourne in 1912, CommBank has constantly evolved its branch network to provide more ways for customers to bank on their terms; and those terms have changed a lot over the years! The bank has seen Australians through The Great Depression, the 'recession we had to have' and the technology boom, all the while helping more South Australians own their own home than any other bank.

It's not surprising then that CommBank is Australia's leading provider of integrated financial services, including retail, premium, business and institutional banking, funds management, superannuation, insurance, investment and share-broking products and services. While the bank branches of today are unrecognisable from 100 years ago, they still remain a central hub for customers, businesses and communities. From completing ledgers by quill and ink and mobile banking by horse and cart to 24/7 intelligent and real time cash and cheque deposits and video conferencing, CommBank's branch network has seen generations of customers come through its doors and experience something new every time.

Upon entry to the Rundle Mall branch you'll be greeted by a concierge to assist with your immediate needs, appointments and specialist requirements, and you will find a wide range of innovative, technology based features including iPads used for internet banking in the branch. Plus, there's also the ability to make appointments online ahead of time, making it easier for the time poor customer of today to speak to an expert at their own convenience.

Ruth Walkington, Rundle Mall CommBank Branch Manager, says: "The team and I are really excited about showing new customers through our improved banking experience."

"The combination of our concierge and new state-of-the-art technology means we can offer customers a seamless experience that is faster, more convenient, and meets the needs of their ever changing lives." she adds.

Ruth and the CommBank Rundle Mall team are more than capable of assisting you with everyday needs, but through the wonders of modern technology, speaking with a range of financial specialists has also never been easier. From mortgage lenders to asset finance specialists, you always have the ability to connect to a relevant expert via in-branch video conferencing facilities, even if the expert is on the other side of the country.

Rundle Mall's new Commonwealth Bank branch is alive with technology and well worth a look. All of your banking needs can be taken care of with a variety of integrated banking solutions, from simpler and more convenient everyday banking services to even more ways to have conversations about the big financial decisions.

ANGELO HITS NEW HEIGHTS WITH COMMBANK RENO

ANGELO Galano has just completed the biggest, most challenging job of his career. His renovation of the Commonwealth Bank's flagship Queen St branch in Brisbane is a monument to design - merging tile, cement, glass, wood and light. But to Mr Galano (pictured) it is so much more than that.

For the man who started Enoggera company Better Build Constructions armed with a diploma in applied science and a builder's licence in 1997, successfully winning and completing the multi-million-dollar CommBank work is the pinnacle of his career.

"It's the biggest and most challenging job my company has ever undertaken and I'm so proud of my team and the finished product we achieved," he said.

The work has won Mr Galano's team two awards this year - the Laminex Group/Australian Shop & Office Fitting Industry Association interior fit-out awards in the commercial category in May, and the regional Master Builders Award for retail facilities up to $20 million for the Brisbane area earlier this month.

"Being an operation CBD site, we could only work at night and had to have the branch ready to open for business every morning. That's an enormous planning and logistical operation," Mr Galano said.

Nevertheless, BBC completed the work in five months. It's somewhat fitting that it’s CommBank work that's put this Pickering St company in the spotlight, as it was CommBank that gave Better Build its first big break in commercial fit-out work, refurbishing old branches at Capalaba and Woodridge.

Today the business has 34 employees, works all over Queensland and parts of the Northern Territory and is trying its hand in southern states as well - with five projects in NSW and one in Adelaide. "A lot of our success has probably been right place, right time," Mr Galano said.

"I've always got in the back of my mind the people that helped us along the way and gave us opportunities.

"You're really only as good as your last job. Some forgiving clients will give you a second chance but it's unlikely you'll get a third if you stuff up."

COMMONWEALTH BANK FLAGSHIP BRANCH

Better Build Constructions rises to the challenge at Commonwealth Bank Flagship branch.

We could not be more excited about the completion of the Flagship Branch at Commonwealth Bank, 240 Queen Street Brisbane. Many months of consultation, planning and construction finally culminated in the opening of the branch with state-of-the-art technology and an experience for the Bank’s customers like no other.

Meticulous attention was paid to every detail of the refurbishment, from the washrooms to the professional barista cafe in the public area.

A unique feature is a seminar space located at the top of the stairs equipped with all of the necessary AV equipment required and seating for 50 people.

Both local and imported materials were used to achieve a unique look and feel, which compares with no other in Brisbane or across Australia.

Many challenges had to be met along the way - one of the biggest was programming works to allow the branch functions to continue with minimal disruptions to staff or customers.

Better Build, alongside a team of specialist contractors, worked tirelessly to achieve a quality and design second to none.

We at Better Build are very proud of the result both as Construction Managers and Builders of the Flagship Project. We look forward to many other similar opportunities and are more than prepared to meet all of the challenges that await us.
